BeStuff provides internet users with a way to show their favorite things, no matter what kind of things those may be. Users can add what they feel is the ‘best’ by providing links to content and media on the web. For example, a user could add a link to their favorite restaurant, share a photo, or submit their favorite song. Bestuff does not discriminate when it comes to the type of media submitted. If it can be found on the web, then it can be added to a Bestuff profile. Users can search through the community’s submissions to find other favorite items by keyword. The homepage also features a suggested item and allows users to state whether they agree or disagree with it being a ‘best.’ The website also contains a forum, however access to that is not available at this time.Show more screenshots »
BeStuff was launched in 2008. The website was created to give users a place to share their favorite things. Those things can vary dramatically depending on the user’s preferences. Today, Bestuff describes itself as an “open, organic, polymorphous site” and that seems to be accurate. Rather than limiting what can be considered the best, Bestuff allows users to share just about anything they deem worthy of such a title.
Bestuff is a unique site in its approach and focus. Although anyone could post their favorite things to other profiles, such as social networking profiles, these are generally not focused on those things. Bestuff operates around the concept of the user’s favorite things. What makes the website so unique is the broad range of items that can be added. Users can supply a song, image, link, brand, activity or any other favorite thing they enjoy. Rather than limit what can be posted, Bestuff welcomes everything and anything.
The Bestuff website welcomes users with a fun green and purple color scheme and good organization. As soon as a newcomer arrives on the homepage, they are greeted by a large grid of small images. Each image represents a user submission. The visitor can mouse over these items to see a small description or click on them to inspect them further. A search tool bar is positioned in the upper, right hand corner with a community poll just below it. Another entry field is found along the upper, left side so the user can submit the items they feel are the best.
New users can join the Bestuff community by clicking the white “Sign Up” link in the green header at the top of the page. The account creation form asks for a nickname, email address, password and successful entry of a “human check” (which is essentially the website’s version of a Captcha code). After clicking the white and black “Create Account” button at the bottom of the form, the user is advised that they must check their email inbox for a validation message. This message must be accessed to complete registration and begin using Bestuff.
Bestuff provides a unique service, however it is not one that could convince users to pay money. Much of the value in Bestuff is reliant on the activity of its users. Without the user, there would be no database of ‘best’ things. Luckily the website welcomes all new users for free. There are no subscription fees or set up costs. Anyone can join the Bestuff community for free.
Bestuff is could be fun website for users who like social networking and have a few favorite things they want to share. The website may help users explore new possible favorite things through the items submitted by others. It is purely for entertainment and we don't see how anyone could enjoy this site for more than a week.
